An Event to Remember!
Posted by Jo-Anne on the July 25th, 2008
Hello everyone!
I’m back in the Bay Area after a truly eventful trip. My mind is still blank right now from lack of sleep. As previously mentioned by Christine, I was one of the fans that stayed up and camped out ALL NIGHT! As me and my friend Leslie walked around the convention center Wednesday night, we saw a line forming already outside the doors of Hall H. So after meeting Christine and Angela (RPW Fan) at the Marriott hotel lobby, we went straight to the convention center where the line was forming and made plans for the next day. We met a lot of really nice people and bonded like crazy! One of the highlights of camping out was that we got to mingle with Melissa Anelli (Leaky Cauldron.com) and Andrew (Mugglenet.com). I got a couple of fantastic interviews from them, some pictures and they also signed my comic con scrapbook. Andrew and Melissa are both very, very nice, very humble (they also camped out!). Andrew even walked us ladies to the bathroom! Lol. Since we were camping out, it meant that finding a restroom is quite hard, but one of the Twilight Moms found one across the street, which was quite far actually, so Andrew came with us as our “bodyguard”.
Around 2 am, we had to move from our line outside Hall H, to the doors of Hall C, where a line was forming to pickup our badge to get in the convention center. That experience was a total nightmare, because the people that was working for the event moved us 3 times! First they said Hall F, then another guy said it’s supposed to be Hall C (2nd floor), so we dragged our bags and walked up the “stairs of 2 am nightmare” as what we called it, because the stairs was unbelievably high and we were all tired and hungry by then. By the time we got up, the guy up there said the line should be at the ground floor, not the 2nd floor, so we went down the stairs again! (Pics of the nightmarish stairs on next blog).
So we stayed on the ground level outside Hall C for the good part of the night until 4 am when news people started arriving, setting up their equipment. By this time, the line was already long, and we were already dead tired and too sleepy to talk to the newscasters (plus I don’t think I look decent enough since I look a mess after staying up all night). Then at 5 am, one of the supervisors from the convention center came out and said that we were all supposed to be by Hall A (which was at the end of the convention center). This made everyone really, really mad! One of the Twilight Moms, which was the first in line by Hall C got up and confronted the people of the event. By the time we got to Hall A, there was already a long, long line. But thanks to a couple of Twilight Moms, they were able to convince the event organizers that WE should be the ones to get in first and said we have pictures to show it! So I went up front and took my camera out and showed them that I also took pics of the line, and who the people were.
So after a long and exhausting night, come 7:35 am, the organizers escorted us back to Hall C. It was actually funny because the group that I was with actually held each others backbacks, linked arms or held on to sweaters, like kids walking on a field trip. Good thing though, the organizers guarded the line because there were a lot of people trying to cut in.
So after getting our badges, and a bunch of freebies I might add, we went straight to the line at Hall H. We were deliberating on whether to stay for the autograph signing, but after finding out that Robert and Kristen won’t be in the signing panel, we went down to Hall H (it was only Stephenie who’ll be signing). By this time (it was around 8 - 8:30 am) the line to get into Hall H was unbelievably LONG! It was crazy! Thanks to my group, and Christine (who actually had a good night’s sleep by the way! lol) kept our place in line since they already have their entrance badges from the day before, so we were actually (almost) in front of the line. There was about 20 or so people ahead of us, but that was ok.
Then at exactly 9:35 am, the doors to Hall H opened up and everyone was clapping like crazy! Volunteers were handing out free T-shirts for the “The Day The Earth Stood Still” movie, and walked the entire hall to get to the front. That hall was HUGE! so getting to the front was quite a walk! I ended up in row 8, and the rest of the group was seated either in front of us, next, or behind us. I believe by that time, our group count was around 18.
Before I get into the discussion panels, I would first like to thank each and every one of the girls who stayed with us (Tanya, Kayla, Angela, Caitlyn with her husband and 6 week old baby Tanner, which I named Twilight Dad and Twilight Baby, Caitlyn’s mom, Charice and Jessica (which were members of Twilight Moms), Alicia, Leslie, and many many more that I know what their names are, but due to my sleep deprived, brain dead memory, I couldn’t name them all right now) bonded and became instant friends. I got all their email addresses and phone numbers, and I am sure this won’t be the last we’ll all see each other. I also want to add that some of the people in our group were actually members of the Twilight Moms (TM) and they were awesome! I had a really good time talking with them, sharing stories and experiences and plans for any upcoming events and filming!
I would also like to send a BIG thanks to Tara and Isabel of pattinsononline.com for the really cute “Team Edward” buttons that they were handing out. I still have those pinned to my badge lanyard, and will stay there until the next event we’ll go to!
So… back to the panels, we saw Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Conneley from the movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still” coming out 12/12/08. Then came out gorgeous Mark Wahlberg (OMG, his body is so buffed, it’s so gooood!) for his movie “Max Payne” coming out next year. Then a runner gave a slip of paper to the host of the event, and said that there’s a surprise visitor, and wouldn’t you know it… Hugh Jackman came out! The press people totally ran up front to get photos and people were screaming! He said he just finished filming his next movie “Xmen Origins - Wolverine” which will be out next year. We saw the first rough trailer of the movie and it looked amazing! Can’t wait for that. He also came down the stage to shake the hand of the creator/illustrator of the Xmen comic books, so that was really good. Then late comer Dakota Fanning came running out saying sorry she was late for the panel discussion but thanked everyone for the support and hoped that everyone would watch her next movie. She is soooo cute!
Then before the Twilight panel came out, the light were all off, and the people chanted “Twilight! Twilight”! You can feel the excitement in the room! That’s when my hands started shaking! ha ha. When the cast came out, everybody was clapping really hard, and by the time Robert came out, the screams was overpowering. I, too, kept jumping up and down, screaming my lungs out! I kept saying “ahhhhh!! Oh my god… Robert!!! ahhhh” ha ha ha!
I videotaped the entire panel discussion as well as the Q&A. The questions was really good, aside from one that got a “boo”.. ( the question was “Since Twilight will come out the same day as “The Earth stood still”, who do you think will make it to the box office? Everyone was like “aawwww come on!” Of course everyone knows who’ll top the box office that day!
Robert and Taylor was asked about “boxers, briefs or nothing?”, unfortunately, neither one answered directly. Rob just gave a weird.. “uhhhh” and made the cutest face. One of the funny moments was when one of the questions asked was about the filming and Kristen’s answer (related to the mirror scene and all the action), she said she “gets on” with doing things like that, which totally surprised everyone (including Rob who turned his head and gave her a “whaaattt???” look). Even the people were clapping from her comment. When Rob was asked what his fave scene was, he said it was the filming in Catherine’s bed (the meadow scene), but I would assume it’s really not the actual filming, but his “audition” and Rob mentioned about him and Kristen in the room, and said “…. with Catherine!”… and people laughed. Then Catherine said “… filming!”
Then after the event, we were informed via text message, that Rob and the rest of the cast will be at the Hard Rock Hotel across the street from the convention center. So we rushed to get there and sat in the lobby area and waited… and waited…
After an hour, wouldn’t you know, but Paris “That’s Hot!” Hilton came walking in, flanked by massive bodyguards, talking on her cellphone. She was wearing a hot pink summer dress with a very low cleavage (yup, no bra!) and I can now definitely say… She’s bloody HOT!. (pictures to follow!)
Then after 30 minutes or so… Stephenie came walking in the lobby with her friend. At first we were too shocked to say anything, then Alicia, one of the girls with me called out her name. Stephenie looked around, smiled and waved! Then rushed in to the “meeting room/lounge”. After that, the cast came trickling in one by one. Taylor (Jacob) came in with a girl (sorry girls!), then came Cam (also with a girl), then Edi and Rachelle (Laurent and Victoria) with 2 girls. Rachelle’s hair is so beautiful! I jealous! Then after a few minutes, Rob came out of the limo! I saw him first, recognizing his funky “sex hair”. He slipped on his Raybans as he got out of the car. I called out “Robert!” and pointed my finger out the door. We quickly grabbed our cameras and walked up to him, said hi and asked for his pic (I was like a foot from him!), but like the rest, he was rushed inside the room. He just said “sorry..”
It ticked me off a bit because, even though we understand he can’t take pics or something, at least he should’ve said something, “thanks for the support” or something ( I mean, they KNOW that a ton of fans camped out all night just to see him).. ohh well..
So that’s most of it. I’ll post the pics and videos as soon as I edit the videos and upload like a gazillion pics in my pc.
Once again, for all the girls that were with me the entire event, many many thanks. Sorry we did not have the chance to say our goodbyes, but for me, its more like “Til the next time” because I’m sure we’ll all see each other again!
As for the rest of the reporters, no, we didn’t get to meet them (Steph, Tiffany and Lauren). We in the lobby of the Marriott for about 15 minutes before heading back to the convention center. The shirts for the reporters, I gave Christine’s shirt, and by the day of the event, and I still haven’t seen any of the reporters, the girls in my group took them all as a remembrance.
Last minute news as of late last night/early morning… we found out that a girl was arrested after the panel because she was “trying” to get to Rob.. ha ha ha.
Then there’s also a posted blog in livejournal about how “some girls” attacked the Leaky Cauldron/Mugglenet crew and dissed these livejournal/Twatlight group. Yah, we were those “girls” and no, we did not “attack” the Leaky/Mug crew. The LeakyMugs were actually talking to everyone, so if these Twatlighters were “dissed and left out”.. not our problem.. if they would just be humble enough and join along with everyone talking, then they wouldn’t feel “left out”.
I’m sure there’s lots more news to spring out online. But all I can say is.. this was one hella good experience to remember for a very, very long time!
